1. About this policy

Version 1.0. Effective October 5, 2026.

This policy says what personal data Out To Sea LLC, doing business as Log.Fish ("Log.Fish", "we", "us"), collects, why, who gets it, and what you can do about it. It covers the log.fish website, the Log.Fish app and our emails. It is part of the Log.Fish Terms of Service. Words such as Log, Catch, Log Sheet, Pro, Pro Club and Catch Data have the meanings in section 1.3 of the Terms.

It does not cover:

  • what a Pro does with member information after the Pro receives it. The Pro is responsible for that, under Terms 9.13;
  • other platforms whose content appears in a Pro Club, such as YouTube or Instagram (section 9).

The short version

  • Your catch locations are private to you unless you share them.
  • We never sell anything that identifies you, and we share it only as this policy describes, for example with a Pro whose Club you join. We never share your exact spots, and we use no advertising trackers.
  • On a free account, we can use catches older than 60 days to improve Log.Fish. From catches older than 12 months, we can make Catch Data: general facts about catches, with no name, no photo and no exact spot, released only for areas with 10 or more anglers. We can share or sell Catch Data.
  • Pro Logger catches, catches of young anglers we know about, and all catches logged before October 5, 2026 never go into either use. Where your state's law lets you, you can keep your catches out at no cost (section 5).
  • When you join a Pro Club, the Pro sees your name, email and what you read in the Club.
  • You can see, export, correct and delete your data. Section 13 says how.

2. What we collect

Most of this comes from you or your device. Payment status comes from Stripe, Apple and Google. Some comes from other people: a Pro can type your email address to share a Log Sheet with you, and that can start an account for you (Terms 3.3).

We do not collect your date of birth, government ID or full card number. Stripe, Apple and Google handle card numbers.

3. How we use your data

We use personal data only for these purposes:

  • to run your account and give you the Service, as your settings tell us;
  • to process payments, refunds, payouts, disputes and taxes;
  • to send service email: sign-in links, receipts, notices, renewal reminders and changes to our terms;
  • to send marketing email, if you have not turned it off. We never send marketing email to an account holder that we know is under 18;
  • to keep the Service secure, and to stop fraud, abuse and breaches of the Terms;
  • to fix problems and make the app faster;
  • on free accounts, to build and improve Log.Fish with catches older than 60 days, and to make Catch Data, as section 5 says;
  • to obey the law and to protect our rights.

We do not use your data for advertising that follows you across other companies' websites and apps.

4. Your location

  • The app records the location of a catch only if you let the app use your phone's location. You can turn this off in your phone settings at any time. You can then still log catches, but without an automatic location.
  • Your catch locations are private to you by default. Nobody else sees them unless you share a catch. When you share, you choose how much of the location to show.
  • A catch whose photo you put in the public feed shows only a square on our map grid, never the exact spot.
  • To get the conditions for a catch, we send its time and coordinates to our weather and marine data providers, with nothing that identifies you.
  • Before anyone else sees a photo or video that you post or share, we remove its hidden location, time and device data.
  • On a free account, we can use exact locations of catches older than 60 days inside Log.Fish to improve it, for example to make forecasts better. Exact locations used this way never leave Log.Fish.
  • If we know that an account belongs to someone under 18, other people never see the location of its catches.

5. Catch Data

Catch Data is what lets Log.Fish stay free for most anglers. This is exactly how it works.

What it is. Catch Data is a set of facts about catches: species, length, weight, kept or released, date and time of day, Method, bait and lure, weather, tide and water conditions, and a general area at least 10 kilometers (about 6 miles) on each side.

What it never contains. Your name, email, @handle, account, device, photos, notes, exact coordinates, spot names, or anything that links one of your catches to another.

Which catches. Only catches on free accounts that are at least 12 months old. Never catches logged on Pro Logger, never catches of an account that we know belongs to someone under 18, and never catches logged before October 5, 2026.

Who gets it. We can share, license or sell Catch Data to businesses, researchers and public agencies.

Protections.

  • We never release Catch Data for an area and period with fewer than 10 different anglers in it.
  • Catch Data is de-identified. We keep it that way, and we do not try to identify any angler from it.
  • Every recipient agrees in writing not to try to identify any angler, and to pass the same duty to anyone it gives the data to.

Because Catch Data cannot reasonably identify you, it is not personal data. We do not sell or share personal data as the state privacy laws define those words.

Your choice. Pro Logger keeps your catches out of both uses. Where your state's law gives you the right to limit this use without paying, email privacy@log.fish, and we stop using your catches for it from then on, at no cost.

6. AI

  • Species suggestion. When you add a photo to a catch, we send a small copy of the photo, with its hidden data removed, to our AI provider, Anthropic, to suggest the species. We never send the location, spot names or who you are. We delete our copy within 24 hours. Anthropic does not use it to train its models and deletes it within 30 days, except where the law or its safety rules require it to keep it longer.
  • AI writing for Pros. When a Pro uses an AI writing button, we send only the text the Pro typed, the Club's name and its home water. We never send member data. We keep a record that a draft was asked for, and when, but never the text.
  • We do not sell your photos, notes or catches to anyone to train AI models.

Photos of people. If a catch photo shows a person, the photo is part of the account holder's own Content. We do not use photos to identify people.

7. What other people on Log.Fish see

WhoWhat they see
Anyone, without an accountYour public profile: @handle, avatar and the profile details you add. Catches whose photo you put in the public feed: photo, species, month and year, and the grid square
Anyone, on a Pro Club storefrontThe Club's name, description and home water, and the name and photo that the Pro puts on it
A Pro whose Club you joinYour name and email address, which the Pro can download; your join request; the days you read the Club and what you opened; your posts and questions in the Club
Other members of a Pro ClubYour @handle and avatar, only in Clubs where you post. Never your email address, and never your reading activity
Members of a Club where you share a Log SheetThe Log Sheet, with the amount of location you chose. A member who adds it to their Log keeps it permanently (Terms 5.5)
A person you share a Log Sheet with by emailThat Log Sheet
A new owner of a Pro Club you belong toAll that the old owner saw: names and email addresses, activity records, pending join requests, removed and blocked members, and the Club's Message Board and questions (Terms 8.13). We email you once with the new owner's name

The Pro decides what to do with your name and email, within the rules of the Terms: use them only to run that Club, never sell or give them away, and never contact you after you leave unless you agreed separately. For that use, the Pro is responsible for your data, not Log.Fish. If a Pro breaks these rules, tell us at abuse@log.fish.

We build no profile of your activity across Clubs. When someone @mentions you, we email you; they never see your address.

8. Companies that get data from us

Service providers. These companies process data for us, only to run the Service, under contracts that forbid other uses:

Kind of providerWhat they process
Payments: StripePayments, refunds, disputes, Pro payouts, Pro identity and tax checks
App stores: Apple and GoogleApp purchases, and sign-in if you use their sign-in
AI: AnthropicPhoto copies for species suggestion; text that Pros write with AI help (section 6)
Weather and marine dataCatch times and coordinates, with nothing that identifies you
Hosting, database and file storageAll Service data
Video and audio processingVideos and audio you upload, and their transcripts
Email and text deliveryYour email address, phone number and the messages we send you
App links, crash and performance monitoringDevice and app data
Website analyticsPages visited, cookies and IP address

You can ask for the current list of named providers at privacy@log.fish.

Catch Data recipients. Businesses, researchers and public agencies can receive Catch Data, which is not personal data (section 5).

The law. We give data to a government or a court only when the law requires it, for example a valid subpoena or court order. Where the law permits, we tell you first, so you can object.

Safety. We can share data where it is necessary to protect a person from harm, or to protect the Service from fraud or attack.

A new owner. If Log.Fish merges, is bought, or transfers its assets, your data can transfer to the new owner. The new owner must keep the promises in this policy for all data collected under it, and must get your agreement to change them. We tell you by email when a transfer occurs.

We share personal data with nobody else.

9. Cookies and analytics

  • Needed cookies keep you signed in on the website and keep it secure. The website does not work without them.
  • Analytics cookies tell us which pages people visit, so we can make the website better. You can block them in your browser settings, and the website still works.
  • No advertising trackers. We put no advertising cookies, pixels or trackers on the website, in the app or in our emails.
  • Emails. Our emails contain no tracking pixels. We do not know if you open them.
  • The app sends crash reports, performance data and app-link data to our service providers, to keep it working. It does not track you across other companies' apps.
  • Global Privacy Control. We sell or share no personal information for advertising, so the signal has nothing to turn off. We honor it as an opt-out request anyway.
  • Content from other platforms. When you open a Pro Club page that shows a YouTube video or an Instagram post, your browser connects directly to that platform. That platform can see the request, as if you opened the video on its own site. We send it nothing about you. We get the title and thumbnail from a public service that receives only the link. A person who is not a member of the Club never receives the embed.

10. How long we keep data

DataHow long
Account and profileWhile your account is open. After you delete it, 30 days, then we erase it

11. Security

  • Data travels encrypted between your device and our systems, and is stored encrypted.
  • Only the people who need data to run the Service can get to it.
  • There are no passwords to steal. Sign-in uses a link to your email, or Apple or Google sign-in. Keep your email account secure.
  • No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we tell you as the law requires.

12. Children and young anglers

  • You must be 13 or older to have an account. If we learn that a child under 13 has their own account, we close it and delete its data. A parent who thinks this occurred can tell us at privacy@log.fish.
  • A child under 13 can fish with Log.Fish through a parent's account. Those catches are the parent's.
  • If we know that an account belongs to someone under 18, extra protections apply: other people never see the location of its catches, its catches never go into Catch Data or our improvement use, we send it no marketing email, and its photos never appear in our marketing. A parent or guardian can tell us at support@log.fish.

13. Your rights and choices

We give these rights to every account holder, wherever you live.

  • See and export. View your Log at any time. Ask us for a copy of your personal data, or a file of your catches.
  • Correct. Change your profile at any time. Ask us to correct other data.
  • Delete. Delete a catch, or your whole account (Terms 12.1).
  • Location. Turn off location in your phone settings at any time.
  • Public feed. Turn the public photo of any catch on or off.
  • Marketing email. Use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email. Service emails continue while your account is open.
  • Keep your catches out of section 5. Upgrade to Pro Logger, or, where your state's law gives you the right, email privacy@log.fish and we do it at no cost.

To use a right, email privacy@log.fish from the email on your account. We confirm that the request is from you, and we answer within 45 days. Someone you authorize can make a request for you, with your signed permission. If we refuse a request, we tell you why, and you can ask us to look at it again by replying. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to your state attorney general. We never treat you worse because you used a right.

14. Where we keep data

We keep data in the United States. If you use Log.Fish from another country, your data goes to the United States, where the privacy laws can be different from yours.

15. Changes to this policy

We change this policy as the Terms say for changes (Terms 13). For a material change, we email you at least 30 days before it takes effect, and we ask you to accept it. Old versions stay at log.fish/legal/privacy/history.

A change never reduces the protection of information that we collected before it, unless you agree.
